Peas to the Table

Our first grade team met with Mrs. Kate Hellman, an Old Bonhomme parent, who had a desire to see the O.B. garden used to its fullest potential.  She met with our team about our garden plans and encouraged us to enter the Peas to the Table contest as a way to kick off our gardening.  This contest was inspired by a local author and artist, Susan Grigsby.  You can read about the contest by clicking here.
The first grade classrooms are working together as one team, and we look forward to observing our little seeds and seeing how they grow.

You can tell that Mrs. Hellman is passionate about gardening and that she enjoys teaching children about plants and growing.

Thank you, Mrs. Hellman and Mrs. Brown!

Read Across America

In early March, our class celebrated, "Read Across America Day." This is a nation-wide celebration that celebrates literacy.  It always takes place on the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

A special "Super" Reader visited our classroom.  This was a special visit.  Dr. Jahnke read her favorite book from her first grade year, The King's Wish!  She was so generous and kind to take time out of her busy day and leave gifts for the students.

Students completed many literacy activities centered around various Dr. Seuss books.  Students read books, compared & contrasted, wrote about their connections and thoughts, and worked cooperatively.

We enjoyed this day of literacy and fun!
