Career Day Presentation

Thank you to Anish's mom, Monali Prabagaran, for sharing her career with our class. She is a healthcare scientist for Washington University School of Medicine.  She is completing post doctoral work in the area of mother and baby's health.  She is researching to find the best treatment for a mom's health.

She began talking about what a scientist is and does.  She talked about different kinds of scientists and shared facts about some important scientists.  She went on to tell the students about her path as a scientist and the different subjects she had to study to become one.  The attributes she shared that were important to becoming a scientist were: paying close attention, having keen observation, asking questions, using teamwork, and never giving up.

Great questions were asked and students were very engaged in her presentation. Anish's mom encouraged every student to find out what they love and try to do what they love.  Great advice!  Thank you to Anish's mom for visiting our classroom and sharing her passion as a scientist.

Shine Your Light

Thank you to Miss Ladue for the production of the First Grade Musical.  A great message was shared of shining our light, appreciating and respecting our unique qualities-- but also understanding the need to come together as one community.

Here are the slide shows that were shown during our performance:

Winter Party Project

Thank you to Mrs. Glasser, our head room parent, for suggesting a community giving project for our Winter Party.  It was a great success!  Thank you to Mrs. Jim for the preparation of materials and to all the parents who came and offered to help.  The students learned about giving to others in a time of need.  It was a great way to celebrate our first semester.  Click on the slideshow to view.

Native American Homes Project

We culminated our Native American unit with presentations of our projects that students created at home.  We had representation from every region that we studied.  The creativity and hard work of the students was very impressive!

Students learned a great deal from each other and were able to examine the homes close-up after the presentations.  This was a great hands-on experience.  Thank you, families for helping your students complete these wonderful projects.

Native American Learning

We completed our unit of the Native Americans this quarter.  Students learned a great deal of historical information, some geography, and experienced a bit of the cultures by creating crafts, artifacts, and toys. This is definitely a favorite unit in first grade!
