Learning About Air and Weather

We spent a few weeks during the month of April learning about Air and Weather.  Students completed research through close-reading articles, created a special folder with guides and graphic organizers, conducted experiments as a class, went outside to explore weather and clouds, and kept a graph of daily weather conditions.

Students identified cloud types and learned about the different weather associated with the different cloud types.

We conducted experiments as a class that helped learn about different weather conditions.

The lessons were often integrated with our language arts lessons, so students were learning reading and writing skills while they learning science skills.  One of the highlights of the unit was watching a video clip on You Tube of a real storm chaser.  There were a lot of oohs and aaahs that day!  Don't worry.  I did warn them not to try this at home!  :)  However, students were encouraged to try their weather experiments at home, and I did hear about several students trying some of these out!

Weather was one of our favorite units!
