Eat your veggies!

This semester we spent some time learning about nutrition. We found out that one of our moms specializes in cooking and nutrition, specifically cooking with vegetables, so we invited her into our classroom to share some of her expertise.

The lesson included literature, diagrams, and a hands-on experience for the kids.

Mrs. O'Donnell taught the students about the different kinds of vegetable plants: roots, stems, bulbs, tubers, and leafy vegetables.  This was especially great because we have a unit about plants coming up!

The lesson ended with students drawing a rainbow of fruits and vegetables to remind them to eat many different colored foods to ensure that their body absorbs as many vitamins and nutrients as possible.  We really appreciate the time that Mrs. O'Donnell took out of her work day to help us learn about this important topic!
